Research confirms that children are more likely to excel and make better choices in their lives when they have experienced the quiet power of a Big Brothers Big Sisters match.
Little Brothers and Little Sisters are less likely to skip school and less likely to start using alcohol or illegal drugs. We see children’s confidence increase and their sense of the future develop through the simple interaction they have with their Big.
Big Brothers Big Sisters nationally serves hundreds of thousands of children in 5,000 communities across the country. The national goal is to provide one million children with Bigs by 2010. In Great Falls, we would like to provide 80 children with a Big in our community program and club-based program by 2007.
Youth development experts agree that, in addition to their parents, children need supportive, caring adults in their lives. BBBS works closely with parents to match every child with the right Big. Each potential volunteer is screened, trained, and supervised to help ensure that the relationship will be safe and rewarding.
