Big Brothers Big Sisters of America was founded in 1904. Nationally, the program serves approximately 225,000 children, with the goal to serve 1,000,000 children.

BBBS of Great Falls began in October 1974 when two special education counselors became aware of a need for more individual attention for many of the children in special education classes in Great Falls. The goal of the program was to help children develop improved social skills in relating to peers and adults. The two counselors served as the volunteer coordinators for the program. At the end of the school year,  questionnaires were filled out by the volunteers and the parents. The results showed overwhelmingly positive feedback. As a result, in 1975 the counselors met with other social service organizations and they decided there was a huge need for a Big Brothers Big Sisters agency in Great Falls. In 1976 Big Brothers Big Sisters of Great Falls employed a full time director.

In July 2015 BBBS of Great Falls merged with BBBS of Helena and became BBBS of Helena and Great Falls. This corporation allows us to expand out reach while saving money on national dues, insurance, and audits.
